{"id":135460,"date":"2026-09-10T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T06:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=135460"},"modified":"2026-09-09T21:42:34","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T02:42:34","slug":"pathology-conference-hosted-by-unmc-set-for-sept-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/09\/10\/pathology-conference-hosted-by-unmc-set-for-sept-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Pathology conference hosted by UNMC set for Sept. 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Registration still is open for the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology\u2019s annual pathology conference, which will be held Sept. 26 at the Fred &amp; Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAdvances in Diagnostic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine\u201d is an all-day conference designed for practicing pathologists seeking to integrate current advances into contemporary practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event will provide a comprehensive update on diagnostic challenges and evolving practices across major pathology subspecialties. This accredited continuing education activity is also aimed at fellows, residents, and students interested in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNMC\u2019s Subodh Lele, MD, is the conference director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn a busy pathology practice where pathologists are signing out large numbers of cases daily and simultaneously getting bombarded by new information, it\u2019s hard to keep up and sets them up for diagnostic pitfalls,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is why we started this conference, to describe diagnostic mimics of entities that are common in everyday practice so as to avoid a misdiagnosis. Updated terminology is also presented based on the latest classification schemes. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis year, which is our second year having this meeting, we have also introduced clinical pathology topics in addition to diagnostic challenges in anatomic pathology. The meeting was very well received last year and will be a yearly feature.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Lele noted that the registration fee is waived for trainees and students.
