{"id":135472,"date":"2026-09-09T15:30:51","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T20:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=135472"},"modified":"2026-09-09T15:30:52","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T20:30:52","slug":"mmi-offered-temporary-space-to-olson-center-colleagues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/09\/09\/mmi-offered-temporary-space-to-olson-center-colleagues\/","title":{"rendered":"MMI offered temporary space to Olson Center colleagues"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For several weeks, colleagues from the Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health worked from the third floor of the Munroe-Meyer Institute after a water leak damaged clinic space in the Durham Outpatient Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arrangement stemmed from the existing partnership between the Olson Center and MMI\u2019s Genetic Counseling Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt really was not a question of if we would do this, it was how,\u201d said Amy Nordness, PhD, associate dean and director of MMI. \u201cThey\u2019re our partners. It\u2019s the right thing to do and we needed to find a way to do it the best we could.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Olson Center team had been piecing together available rooms across campus, but quickly realized that was not sustainable for patients, many of whom are seen multiple times a day and several times a week, said Courtney Marshall, clinic manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MMI was able to provide 18 patient rooms, allowing for most Olson Center patients to be seen there. MMI also provided workstations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Making the set up work took a group effort \u2014 exam beds were moved from the hospital, IT set up computers, MMI staff relocated to clear space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody pitched in to make this happen,\u201d Dr. Nordness said. \u201cEveryone said yes and was willing to do whatever they could.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a disruptive and stressful time, MMI provided a workspace as well as a sense of belonging, Marshall said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have witnessed firsthand the impact that generosity, collaboration and compassion can have on a team,\u201d she said. \u201cHaving experienced that kindness ourselves, we hope to carry those lessons forward and extend the same spirit of welcome and support to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For several
