{"id":135940,"date":"2026-10-05T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T06:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=135940"},"modified":"2026-10-02T15:05:49","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T20:05:49","slug":"brand-wise-site-is-back-after-cybersecurity-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/10\/05\/brand-wise-site-is-back-after-cybersecurity-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"Brand Wise\u00a0site\u00a0is back after cybersecurity incident\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNMC\u2019s brand site,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/brandwise.unmc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Brand Wise, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brand Wise<\/a>, is again available&nbsp;for campus users.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A public-facing WordPress environment at UNMC was down after cyber attackers exploited a WordPress vulnerability, gained access to the web server and deployed malicious web-shell files.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A forensic analysis found no evidence of sensitive data loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the incident, additional web security controls were implemented, rebuilding affected infrastructure and sites, including Brand Wise. Modernization of the platform also was accelerated to reduce future risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lisa Bazis, UNMC\u2019s chief information security officer, offered her thanks to the UNMC community for patience in the incident\u2019s aftermath. She also praised the work of the Information Security, Infrastructure, Web Services, Networking, and Operations teams for exceptional work in responding to and recovering from the incident.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTheir rapid response, countless hours of forensic analysis, system restoration and security remediation helped contain the threat, restore services safely and strengthen our environment against future attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident is a reminder of the need to remain vigilant against cyber threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBe cautious of unexpected emails, links and requests for credentials, and promptly report anything suspicious,\u201d Bazis said. \u201cThe actions of a single attentive user can prevent the next security incident before it occurs.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nebraskamed.service-now.com\/esc?id=sc_cat_item&amp;sys_id=8ba611b787d64510dbe0c809cebb3599&amp;sysparm_category=61c25deb47da8110785d6ce5a46d43fb\" target=\"_blank\"
