{"id":136539,"date":"2026-10-21T01:50:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T06:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=136539"},"modified":"2026-10-20T16:20:29","modified_gmt":"2026-10-20T21:20:29","slug":"new-faculty-spotlight-charles-ung-pharmd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/10\/21\/new-faculty-spotlight-charles-ung-pharmd\/","title":{"rendered":"New faculty spotlight: Charles Ung, PharmD"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charles Ung, PharmD, is a new faculty member at UNMC<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Name:<\/strong> Charles Ung, PharmD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Title and department at UNMC:<\/strong> Clinical assistant professor of pharmacy practice and science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research\/professional interests:<\/strong> Medication access, innovative learning strategies and examination preparation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How I fell in love with pharmacy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Growing up, I always wanted to be some type of doctor. Most of my life, I thought I was going to become a physician, but it changed when I went on a college tour at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. During the tour, I saw pharmacy students taking blood pressure and checking sugar levels for community members. I had no idea that pharmacists interacted with the community so directly with patients. And that&#8217;s what really interested me, the patient communication and learning how to manage their medications. It&#8217;s a major role that they play to improve patient&#8217;s health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What eventually pushed me toward academia pharmacy was the &#8220;aha!&#8221; moment. In college, when I was tutoring Chemistry 101, I had peers and younger students struggle in the class. It was so frustrating for them, but when I tutored them, showing them a different perspective or seeing it in a different light, then they would get it. Watching students go from frustrated to confident was rewarding. The path I&#8217;m on right now helps me combine both my passions by helping both patients and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Degrees<\/strong>: Bachelor of Science, PharmD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Memberships:<\/strong> American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Three things people may not know about me:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I don\u2019t wear jeans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I&#8217;m a fast
