Is it a matter of distrust? Is it a lack of knowledge?\u201d Turnipseed said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also described how Don Coulter, MD, winner of this year\u2019s award, turned a problem a patient faced into advocacy with the state. That led to the founding of the Pediatric Cancer Research Group and ongoing state funding that helps support a growing portfolio of pediatric cancer research in Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Coulter, Edna Ittner Chair of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and the PCRG\u2019s director, credited the research group\u2019s establishment to the encouragement and mentorship he received from Bartee, UNMC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/01\/10\/time-to-take-a-bow-bob-bartee\/\">longtime vice chancellor for external relations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMore important than any impact on my career are the impacts that the scientists of the Pediatric Cancer Research Group have made and are making for the families of Nebraska,\u201d he said. \u201cThrough Bob\u2019s legacy, through his guidance, we\u2019ve changed the paradigm of pediatric cancer clinical care and research in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, seconded Turnipseed\u2019s call to action. Paraphrasing the Martin Luther King Jr. quote, \u201cEverybody can be great, because anybody can serve,\u201d Davies said, \u201cEverybody can transform lives, because everybody can
