{"id":19081,"date":"2002-06-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2002-06-27T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2002\/06\/27\/sharing-clinic-benefits-from-third-annual-golf-tournament\/"},"modified":"2002-06-27T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2002-06-27T05:00:00","slug":"sharing-clinic-benefits-from-third-annual-golf-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2002\/06\/27\/sharing-clinic-benefits-from-third-annual-golf-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"SHARING Clinic benefits from third annual golf tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Hackers, ringers, duffers, aces and slicers alike participated in the third annual SHARING Clinic golf tournament, &#8220;Docs on the Green,&#8221; Monday afternoon at the Omaha Field Club.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/golf2b.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\"> <\/p>\n<p>In all, 21 four-person teams participated in the event, which raised nearly $9,000 for the SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups) Clinic, a student-run clinic in south Omaha that combines service to underserved populations with an opportunity for students to learn.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are so many people to thank who have made this event a success,&#8221; said Carrie Beehner, a second-year medical student who chaired the event.<br \/>\nMetro Federal Credit Union and Gaines Pansing &#038; Hogan Law Office were the ultimate sponsors of the event. Several other sponsors contributed raffle prizes and in-kind gifts. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/golf3b.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\"> <\/p>\n<p>Golfers played either the front-nine or back-nine at the Field Club in a scramble format. Prizes for first, second and third places were awarded, as were pin prizes on each hole. <\/p>\n<p>Paul Paulman, M.D., a faculty advisor at the SHARING Clinic, told participants that their contributions benefited a nationally recognized clinic, as Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson recognized the clinic last year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/golf4b.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\"> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The clinic serves 16 to 20 patients a night,&#8221; Dr. Paulman said. &#8220;If those patients needs a medication, they will get it; if they need a service and won&#8217;t be able to pay for it, they&#8217;ll get that service. \u2026 And the students have a hand in everything at the clinic. We advise them, but they really deal with most of the issues on their own of running a clinic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/golf5b.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\"> <\/p>\n<p>Cutlines, from top photo to bottom:<br \/>\nBob Dewhurst of Mutual of Omaha accepts an Odyssey putter from Carrie Beehner, a second-year College of Medicine student who chaired this year&#8217;s golf tournament. The law office was one of two ultimate sponsors, along with Metro Federal Credit Union.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
