{"id":19104,"date":"2002-07-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2002-07-08T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2002\/07\/08\/caverzagie-elected-to-ama-council\/"},"modified":"2002-07-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2002-07-08T05:00:00","slug":"caverzagie-elected-to-ama-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2002\/07\/08\/caverzagie-elected-to-ama-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Caverzagie elected to AMA council"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Kelly Caverzagie, M.D., has been elected to the American Medical Association (AMA) Council on Medical Education for a three-year term.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/residentcaverzagie.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\">The Council on Medical Education is the only entity that has true resident representation (not appointed by department chairs or program directors) and as the only resident member of the Council, Dr. Caverzagie will have a primary role as advocate for resident issues regarding medical education.   <\/p>\n<p>The AMA, and its Council on Medical Education, has a hand in almost every facet of medical education. On the undergraduate level, it is the co-parent with Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), and is one of five parents of the National Resident Matching Program. On the graduate level, the AMA is a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and appoints or nominates representatives to the Residency Review Committees and Medical Liscensure Boards, as well as of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education  (ACCME), and also observes or participates in other allied health meetings.  <\/p>\n<p>The key issues before the Council on Medical Education include residency working and learning environment (resident work hours), moonlighting, GME funding and the multiple aspects of Continuing Medical
