Two of UNMC’s leading physicians — Byers (Bud) Shaw, M.D., and James Armitage, M.D. — will be riding in the Ride Fore Recovery fund-raising event for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The two-day event features a bike ride Saturday, Sept. 7, at NP Dodge Park followed by a four-man, best-ball scramble golf tournament Sunday, Sept. 8, at River Wilds Golf Club in Blair. <\/p>\n

Dr. Shaw, professor and chairman of UNMC’s department of surgery, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on July 25. Dr. Armitage, dean of the College of Medicine, is Dr. Shaw’s oncologist. <\/p>\n

Dr. Shaw, who challenged Dr. Armitage to join him in the Sept. 7 bike ride, is encouraging individuals to help Dr. Armitage raise more money than any other rider. Funds raised will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.<\/p>\n

To make a pledge<\/b><\/p>\n

To support Drs. Armitage and Shaw in the event access the pledge form online<\/a>. (The pledge form is available in a PDF format. If you don’t have it, install Adobe Acrobat Reader<\/a> to read and print the form). Pledge forms should be returned to Tom Thompson, the University of Nebraska Foundation’s director of development for the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center, at ZIP 6805. <\/p>\n

Dr. Armitage has set a personal goal of riding at least 10 miles. Dr. Shaw, an avid cyclist, is hoping to ride at least 50 miles and maybe as far as 100 miles.<\/p>\n

Individuals also may make a donation by sending a check payable to the University of Nebraska Foundation (denote Ride Fore Recovery in the memo) to 8712 W. Dodge Road, Ste. 100, Omaha, NE 68114. <\/p>\n
