\"picture Approximately 100 people turned out Sunday morning for the College of Medicine’s centennial run\/walk. <\/p>\n

The four-mile run\/walk, which commemorated the College of Medicine’s 100th anniversary of joining the University of Nebraska, took place on the Field Club Trail, south of the UNMC Student Life Center. <\/p>\n

“It’s been an enjoyable event,” said Bradette Varilek of Gibbon, a fourth-year medical student who served on the planning committee. “Everyone’s been great at helping us out.” <\/p>\n

Dave Carver, Ph.D., director of Counseling & Student Development, laced up his running shoes for the four-mile run. “It was a nice course and I enjoyed seeing all the runners out here,” he said. “The students did a good job of setting up the race.”

Leading the pack<\/b><\/p>\n

The top male race finishers, and their times, were:
\nFirst — Brandon Seifort, 19-minutes, 53 seconds;
\nSecond — Kevin Olson, 21.48;
\nThird — Shane Burr, 22.49.<\/p>\n

The top female race finishers, and their times, were:
\nFirst — Amie Jorgensen, 21.55;
\nSecond — Megan Lavicky, 25.33;
\nThird — Jodie Sherman, 26.44.<\/p>\n

Fun, prizes, food<\/b><\/p>\n

UNMC’s second-year medical students earned $100 for their class for having the most participants in the event. The event also featured drawings for new stethoscopes, courtesy of the UNMC Bookstore, and a number of gift certificates donated by area retailers and restaurants. \"picture<\/p>\n

Participants capped the run\/walk by eating pancakes and sausage from The Pancake Man, who was able to make 48 pancakes in only 1 1\/2 minutes.
