UNMC and eight sites across Nebraska invite the public to attend UNMC Mini-Medical School, a free health educational series on four consecutive Thursdays beginning Oct. 3. The four-part series is titled, “What’s a-head: Exploring research advances of the head, neck, ear, nose and throat.” \"picture<\/p>\n

UNMC Mini-Medical School topics include information about new developments in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies, snoring and sleep apnea, acid reflux, hearing reconstruction, voice problems, as well as combating depression in patients with head and neck cancer. The free series, which will be held Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. C.D.T., will be broadcast live from Omaha via satellite to: Columbus, Grand Island, Kearney, Lincoln, Norfolk, O’Neill, Red Cloud and Scottsbluff. Anyone with NebSat2 can downlink the series. <\/p>\n

Participants who attend the series will learn from, as well as be able to ask questions of, physicians and a dentist who specialize in otolaryngology – the study of diseases and trauma of the head and neck. UNMC researchers are exploring diagnosis and treatment of a variety of head and neck problems, which ultimately will mean improved clinical care for patients, as well as contributions to the science. <\/p>\n

The goal of Mini-Medical School is to educate Nebraskans on health issues that affect them, as well as highlight the strides being made in research and treatment at UNMC. The series is geared for the public.

While the program is free to the public, Nebraska and Iowa nurses who wish to receive eight contact hours of continuing nursing education credits can do so at a cost of $40 through the UNMC College of Nursing. <\/p>\n
