\nMore than 250 people received a “Winter Health Tune Up” Nov. 16 during an open house at NHS Clarkson West Medical Center near Oak View Mall.<\/p>\n

The “tune up” included screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, vision, glaucoma, prostate cancer and hearing problems. Free flu shots were available for those at high risk of developing complications from the flu. Physical therapists also did grip strength testing and balance testing.<\/p>\n

Approximately 35 volunteers worked the third annual event. <\/p>\n

Adults also received nutrition information, including visual demonstrations of fat content of certain foods and free massages from the UNMC Lifestyle Enhancement Center. Children stayed busy getting check-ups for their teddy bears, their faces painted and watching proper hand washing demonstrations.<\/p>\n

The Cosmopolitan-UNMC College of Nursing Mobile Nursing Center provided blood pressure and diabetes screenings in its 34-foot mobile center. <\/p>\n

“The event just keeps getting better and better each year,” said Robin Stoupa, University Medical Associates director of ambulatory services. “The comments from the public were very favorable and we anticipate continuing this as a public service to the community.”<\/p>\n
