The presentations even afforded opportunities for regents to gain hands-on experience with selected equipment. During the presentation about a new technique in teaching nursing skills, Regent Charles Wilson, M.D., a retired Lincoln cardiologist, was asked to take part in a demonstration of an emergency care simulator being used by the College of Nursing.<\/p>\n<p>After welcoming the Board of Regents to campus, UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., proceeded to escort the group to the following presentations:<\/p>\n<p><UL><br \/>\n<LI>&#8220;Tobacco Settlement Funding: The Next Level of Research,&#8221; with Thomas Rosenquist, Ph.D., vice chancellor for research, John Gollan, M.D., Ph.D., chairman of the department of internal medicine; and William Rizzo, M.D., a pediatrician recruited through tobacco settlement funds who heads the Munroe-Meyer Institute&#8217;s biochemical genetics department. <\/p>\n<p><LI>&#8220;Overview of Campus Construction Projects,&#8221; with Ron Schaefer, director of facilities planning &#038; construction, and Del Lee, associate vice chancellor &#038; director, finance &#038; business services.<\/p>\n<p><LI>&#8220;Increasing Cancer Survival with New Radiation Technology,&#8221; with Charles Enke, M.D., chairman of the department radiation oncology.<\/p>\n<p><LI> &#8220;New Technique in Teaching Nursing Skills,&#8221; with College of Nursing faculty members Lani Zimmerman, Ph.D., Louise LaFramboise, Ph.D., and Myra Schmaderer.<\/p>\n<p><LI>&#8220;NHS Strategic Initiatives,&#8221; with Glenn Fosdick, chief executive officer of Nebraska Health System.<\/p>\n<p><LI>&#8220;High-Tech Operating Rooms,&#8221; with Dmitry Oleynikov, M.D., associate professor in the department of surgery.<\/p>\n<p><LI>&#8220;Educational Frontiers: Geriatric Medicine,&#8221; with Catherine Eberle, M.D. associate professor of internal medicine-geriatrics.<\/p>\n<p><LI>&#8220;The Nose Knows: Importance of Sinus Research,&#8221; with Donald Leopold, M.D.,
