{"id":19810,"date":"2003-01-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2003-01-30T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2003\/01\/30\/students-gain-sports-medicine-skills-under-dr-brown\/"},"modified":"2003-01-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2003-01-30T06:00:00","slug":"students-gain-sports-medicine-skills-under-dr-brown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2003\/01\/30\/students-gain-sports-medicine-skills-under-dr-brown\/","title":{"rendered":"Students gain sports medicine skills under Dr. Brown"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/BrownVOLFACULTY.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\">For the past seven years, fourth-year residents in UNMC&#8217;s department of orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation have worked under the supervision of David Brown, M.D., in the area of sports medicine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I simply enjoy teaching,&#8221; Dr. Brown said. &#8220;I am stimulated by scientific discussion and being around residents and students allows for that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 1988, Dr. Brown began his teaching relationship with students and residents at UNMC as an assistant professor. His relationship with UNMC has grown over the years and in 1995, Dr. Brown became a volunteer faculty member and clinical assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery.  Dr. Brown also participates in the teaching of resident education in the form of Journal Club and presentations at the Monday morning grand rounds.<\/p>\n<p>For his dedication to UNMC and its students, Dr. Brown received the College of Medicine&#8217;s Volunteer Faculty of the Month Award for November 2002.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Brown is an excellent and very knowledgeable orthaopedic surgeon,&#8221; said Kevin Garvin, chairman of the department of orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation.  &#8220;His expertise in the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine is an invaluable asset to the residents&#8217; education and operative experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Brown received his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin in 1975 and his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1979. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif.
