\nThe UNMC Student Senate recently welcomed a new slate of officers and senators.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 20, David Crouse, Ph.D., interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, administered the oath of office to Casey Johnston, student senate president and student regent; Kristin Sonderegger, student senate vice president; and new student senators.<\/p>\n

Outgoing student senate president and student regent Brock Wentz praised senators for their work during the past year. He especially thanked them for their work in raising money for the Auxiliary Club, finding a new location for the senate’s annual luau, updating the senate Web page, planning a successful Chancellor’s forum and organizing a student letter-writing campaign to state lawmakers regarding budget and tuition issues. <\/p>\n

“The administration has done a fantastic job working with us,” said incoming president Johnston. “Brock truly did a fantastic job last year. He’s really set a high standard for us to follow and I hope we can live up to the bar he’s set for us.”<\/p>\n

Johnston, who served as senate vice president last year, pledged to boost student involvement during his tenure. “It’s critical we have student input in the political and social issues,” he said. “We have a tremendous challenge and we’ll tackle it head on to maintain UNMC as a quality educational institution at an affordable price.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
