\nHanging permits required soon for parking structures
\n<\/B>
\n

\nEmployees who are authorized to park in a parking structure will soon be required to display hanging permits in their vehicles in addition to their parking permit (sticker).<\/p>\n

Parking Services is introducing the movable\/transferable hanging permits in an effort to more effectively manage parking facilities on campus. The use of hanging permits for student parkers was initiated several years ago and has been successful in limiting the number of unauthorized parkers.<\/p>\n

Hanging permits — one per authorized parker — will be distributed free of charge during February. If the hanging permit is lost or stolen, it must be reported to Parking Services during business hours. A replacement hanging permit may be purchased for $ 50. If the initial hanging permit is recovered, the replacement fee will be refunded. <\/p>\n

Hanging permits are to be suspended in clear view from the vehicle’s inside rear view mirror support bracket so that the front of the permit is facing out through the front window. If permits are not properly displayed and affixed on the vehicle, violators may be ticketed. If employees forget to transfer the hanging permit to their other vehicle(s), they can call Parking Services at 559-8580 for daily authorization.

Durham Research Center<\/b><\/p>\n

Since the groundbreaking ceremony on May 22, 2001, the campus and community has watched the Durham Research Center reshape UNMC’s western horizon. The last pour on the building’s roof deck was Jan. 13, completing the “cast in place” structural elements. Roofing installation and exterior glass and glazing will begin in mid-February and the tower crane will be dismantled during the week of Feb. 3.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the exterior brickwork is 20 percent complete and the exterior precast concrete panels are 96 percent complete, said project manager Mike Faber of Facilities Management & Planning.<\/p>\n

In April, construction workers will begin erecting auditorium walls on the east side of the building. <\/p>\n

The research center project – except floors 7 and 8 — is scheduled for completion in mid-September. Floors 7 and 8 will be completed in late October.<\/p>\n

Parking garage<\/b><\/p>\n

UNMC and NHS employees will begin parking in the new structure Feb. 17. Parking Services will notify those employees who are authorized to begin parking there at that time. Others will be notified as additional spaces become available.<\/p>\n

\"pictureMeanwhile, construction will continue until the end of March within the structure, said Don Dickmeyer of Facilities Management & Planning. Exterior landscaping will be done this spring. Removal of the two tower cranes was planned for Feb. 1. <\/p>\n

Overall, the parking structure will have almost 10 acres of parking for UNMC\/NHS employees when completed. The Omaha Public Power District, located directly south of the garage, will use a portion of the structure for parking.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
