\nThe Schulz Medical Research Fund provides support for cancer, cardiovascular and diabetes research.<\/p>\n

“The Medical Center fund\u2026is designed primarily because those three diseases affected the couple’s lives,” said Dennis Utter, Ervin Schulz’s cousin. <\/p>\n

UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., said the gift provides funding for cutting-edge research to be performed by world-class scientists.<\/p>\n

“We are extremely grateful for this gift,” Dr. Maurer said. “Cardiovascular disease, various cancers and diabetes certainly are areas in which our scientists excel, and they will use this gift to search for new treatments and cures for these devastating diseases and conditions.”<\/p>\n

Dorothy and Ervin Schulz were both born in Webster County, Neb., and farmed in Hall County until Ervin’s death in January 1990. Dorothy continued to live on the farm until her death in May 2001.<\/p>\n

In addition to their benevolence toward UNMC, they provided an estate gift of $425,000 to support future farmers studying at the UNL College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources or Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
