\n<\/TABLE>Chad Travers of Columbus, president of UNMC’s Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG), recently accepted the Program of Excellence (PoE) Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians. <\/p>\n

UNMC was one of 10 schools to receive the award earlier this month during the AAFP National Conference of Family Practice Residents and Medical Students in Kansas City. This is the second year UNMC has won the award.<\/p>\n

“The Program of Excellence award is a true testament of the FMIG’s commitment to the promotion of Family Medicine and Community Outreach activities,” said Travers, a second-year medical student at UNMC. “Last year’s officers, along with the organization’s advisors, Barbara Goodman, and Dr. Paul Paulman, worked extremely hard to accomplish the goal of becoming one of the finest FMIGs in the nation.”<\/p>\n

The AAFP’s national conference provided an opportunity for students to learn more about family practice, visit with residency programs from around the country, attend educational and procedural workshops and network with residents and students. <\/p>\n

The PoE award is presented to FMIGs that exhibit exemplary efforts in infrastructure, student involvement\/student retention, family practice advocacy and community outreach\/patient advocacy. <\/p>\n

“The FMIG at UNMC looks forward to another exciting year in the promotion of family medicine on campus and in the community,” Travers said. “We will again be striving to remain as one of the finest FMIGs in the country and the possibility of winning the PoE award next year.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
