\n<\/TABLE>The anticipation for the Durham Research Center’s opening became more visible Tuesday, when workers began placing banners on campus light poles, highlighting the center.<\/p>\n

“This research center will be a beacon for UNMC. World-class scientists will hear about it and want to come here to conduct their research,” Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., said. “The banners are just one way in which we hope to convey the center’s importance to the campus and to the public. <\/p>\n

“I can sense the campus community’s excitement about the center’s opening. We are a medical center on the move, and the DRC will accelerate our momentum.”<\/p>\n

Joe Edwards, a graphic designer in Printing Services, designed the banners. A computer rendition of the DRC spans the two banners on each side of a light pole. Each of the banners has “Durham Research Center” above the computer rendition. One banner has “The Future is Here,” while the other has the UNMC logo.<\/p>\n

The DRC grand opening is planned for some time this fall. Scientists who will work in the building were chosen through a competitive process. About 75 percent of the research space will be filled, with 25 percent being left open for expansion of those scientists’ research projects or the recruitment of new researchers.<\/p>\n
