src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/cohenmug.gif\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\">Samuel Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chairman of the department of pathology and microbiology at UNMC, has been named this year&#8217;s recipient of the Distinguished Scientist in Cancer Research by the Foundation for Promotion of Cancer Research (FPCR) of Japan.<\/p>\n<p>He is being recognized for his research on chemical contributions and the evaluation of the risk assessment of chemicals to humans, especially chemicals in the environment and in foods.<\/p>\n<p>During a 10-day visit to Tokyo in early February, Dr. Cohen will present two lectures, one at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, and the second at Nagoya City University Medical School in Nagoya. <\/p>\n<p>The titles of his presentations for the award are, &#8220;Human risk of environmental chemicals: Man is not a rat or a mouse,&#8221; and &#8220;Urinary bladder carcinogenesis: Aromatic amines to arsenic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cohen will visit the Japan Academy of Sciences as the guest of Dr. Takashi Sugimura, president emeritus of the Japanese National Cancer Center in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will have the opportunity to visit with many of the cancer researchers in Tokyo and Nagoya,&#8221; Dr. Cohen said.<\/p>\n<p>After his visit to Tokyo, Dr. Cohen will be the plenary speaker at the meeting of the International Academy of Toxicologic Pathology, being held in Kobe, Japan, where he will give a presentation on &#8220;Human relevance of carcinogenesis in rodents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cohen and his wife, Jan, will be guests of the FPCR during their stay in Japan.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samuel Cohen, M.D.,
