The Administrative Colloquium is a yearlong experience for UNMC faculty who are in administrative positions or who aspire to be, and for those who desire to gain new or sharpen existing administrative and leadership skills. The Administrative Colloquium is composed of a series of eight three-hour workshops and two two-hour networking meetings, culminating in the presentation of individual projects by the participants at the Colloquium Graduation in March each year. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>“The Administrative Colloquium is an integral part of our campus strategy to improve our administrative process and campus leadership to more effectively manage our most important resource — our people,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. <\/p>\n

“The Administrative Colloquium encouraged me as I embarked in my role as clinical director of the UMA West Family Medicine Clinic. The excellent discussions on leadership skills, identifying goals and conflict management were beneficial,” said Carol Lacroix, M.D., assistant professor of family medicine and a 2002 Administrative Colloquium graduate. “The program flows more smoothly when you have a project in mind as you enter; I chose to document my growth as clinical director.”<\/p>\n

The program provides opportunities to work with departments and individuals that might not normally come in contact with each other. Dr. Lacroix noted the value of “cross-cultivation with faculty from other disciplines,” and the “enjoyment of group games and informal conversations at lunch.” <\/p>\n

“This is a great opportunity,” Dr. Lacroix said, in encouraging others to consider participating. “The curriculum will challenge and enable you to expand your horizons and skills. If this program intrigues you, you should seriously consider it.”<\/p>\n

The 2004 – 2005 Administrative Colloquium will commence again in March with the following program topics:
\n1. Shaping the Future: Mission, Vision, Values
\n2. Whigs and Torreys: Understanding Organizational Power and Politics
\n3. A Season for Everything: Understanding and Planning for Change
\n4. The Right Stuff: Leadership Skill Development
\n5. People is Job No. 1: Refining Interpersonal Skills
\n6. Proactive Management: Continuous Quality Improvement
\n7. Tending the Garden: Creating a Productive Work Environment
\n8. Know Thyself: Working With Emotional Intelligence<\/p>\n
