\n<\/TABLE>Faculty and students at the UNMC College of Nursing are celebrating National Public Health Week, April 5-11, with a friendly physical activity competition.<\/p>\n

Kathy Kaiser, Ph.D., associate professor, UNMC College of Nursing, said four faculty and about 40 students in community\/public health nursing clinical groups are logging their physical activity during the week. A small recognition prize will go to the group that logs the most activity during the week.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to do something related to public health and nursing practice since National Public Health Week occurs during the time the students are in the course,” Dr. Kaiser said. “We wanted the activity to be something fun to bring their attention to it, as well as make a point to emphasize the importance of physical activity.<\/p>\n

“We’re hoping our very busy students take time to increase their physical activity during the week and maybe some of this attention will translate into increased physical activity.”<\/p>\n

According to the American Public Health Association, public health is the art and science of safeguarding and improving community health through organized community effort involving prevention of disease, control of communicable disease, application of sanitary measures, health education, including promoting healthy lifestyles and monitoring of environmental hazards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
