The program recognizes outstanding volunteer faculty members for their contributions to the campus, classroom and clinical settings. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/carriganvolfaculty.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><b>Jo Ann Carrigan, Ph.D., <\/b>an emeritus professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, serves as an adjunct professor in UNMC&#8217;s Preventive and Societal Medicine Department, teaching the historical aspects of health care and public health for two elective courses. She has served as a volunteer faculty member since 1976.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Carrigan teaches us about ourselves through the lens of medical history with charm and enthusiasm,&#8221;  her nominator said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/goebelvolfaculty.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><b>Debora Witiak Goebel, M.D., <\/b>a pediatric otolaryngologist with ENT Specialists P.C. in Omaha, has been instrumental in helping UNMC residents learn pediatric otolaryngology, even alerting them when she has interesting cases such as laryngeal reconstruction or unusual pediatric tumors of the head and neck.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Goebel has been a great asset to our department helping to teacher our residents pediatric otolaryngology and generally upgrading the level of pediatric care in otolaryngology in our community,&#8221;  her nominator said. <\/p>\n<p><b>Sandra Allbery, M.D., <\/b>a radiologist at Children&#8217;s Hospital, has served as an adjunct assistant professor of radiology at UNMC since 2001. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;UNMC residents have greatly benefited from her instruction in pediatric radiology and uniformly enjoyed working under her supervision,&#8221;  her nominator said.<\/p>\n<p><b>Agnes Gomes, M.D.,<\/b> a pediatrician at the Grand Island Clinic Inc. in Grand Island, is a &#8220;role model of bedside manner,&#8221;  said one UNMC student. Dr. Gomes has served as a volunteer faculty member since 1998. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Gomes is a leader in Nebraska pediatrics &#8212; an advocate for children, a teacher and a superb doctor. She has always done more than required, including her tremendous job as a volunteer teacher,&#8221;  her nominator said. <\/p>\n<p><b>Bruce Schroeder, M.D.,<\/b> a radiologist at Children&#8217;s Hospital, has served as a volunteer faculty member at UNMC since 1990. He is a 1981 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Schroeder&#8217;s instruction has been an instrumental part of our residents&#8217; radiology rotation and a critical component of our residency program, &#8221; his nominator said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/suhvolfaculty.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><b>Donny Suh, M.D., <\/b>a pediatric ophthalmologist at the Wolfe Clinic in West Des Moines, drives to UNMC six times a year to lecture residents on pediatric ophthalmology. He also is a regular participant in the department&#8217;s annual Truhlsen\/Gifford Lectures. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Donny Suh is an unselfish role model for our residents,&#8221;  his nominator said. &#8220;He willingly drives from Des Moines several times a year to lecture to our residents. He provides the residents with an excellent educational experience by providing detailed handouts and thoroughly explaining concepts in a manner conducive to optimal learning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read highlights from the UNMC College of Medicine Volunteer Faculty Awards program for the first half of 2004.
