Last month, National Public Radio’s “Weekend All Things Considered” ran an interview with Linda Aadland, who donated one of her kidneys to James King, a complete stranger. The two met for the first time July 24 at the annual transplant reunion held by The Nebraska Medical Center. <\/p>\n

Aadland, 52, had contacted the medical center a few years ago to let them know she’d be willing to anonymously donate a kidney. In April, she got the call and a chance to change the life of King, 55.<\/p>\n

“It’s a touching story that demonstrates what goes on every day in he world of transplantation,” said Alan Langnas, D.O., chief of transplantation at The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC professor of surgery. “Transplantation is based completely on the generosity of families who chose to give the gift of life to others. The NPR story is very well done and inspires all of us.” <\/p>\n
