{"id":21975,"date":"2004-09-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-09-15T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2004\/09\/15\/radiation-sciences-students-receive-symbolic-pin\/"},"modified":"2004-09-15T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-09-15T05:00:00","slug":"radiation-sciences-students-receive-symbolic-pin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2004\/09\/15\/radiation-sciences-students-receive-symbolic-pin\/","title":{"rendered":"Radiation Sciences students receive symbolic pin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/pinning2004hesssmith.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<font face=\"arial\" font size=\"-1\"><br \/>\nNuclear medicine student Susan Mark, right, receives a pin from Marcia Hess Smith, program director for nuclear medicine.<br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>On Sunday, 40 students in UNMC&#8217;s Division of Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) received a button-sized, circular, red pin.<\/p>\n<p>The pin, which symbolizes the student&#8217;s dedication to the highest principles of respect, competency, service and integrity, was the high point of the division&#8217;s annual pinning ceremony. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a wonderful opportunity for students to focus on professionalism,&#8221; said James Temme, associate director of the RSTE division. &#8220;The ceremony also provides a formal introduction to the field of radiation sciences and is a milestone in their educational pursuit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 people attended the Sept. 12 event in the Storz Pavilion. <\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/pinning2004grouppix.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<font face=\"arial\" font size=\"-1\"><br \/>\nFrom left: Mary Haven, associate dean for the School of Allied Health Professions; James Temme, associate director of the RSTE division; James Borer, a first-year radiography student; Connie Mitchell, program director for radiography; and Tammy Jones, clinical coordinator for radiography.<br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>During the ceremony, UNMC graduate student Rebecca Meyer emphasized the importance of patient respect and confidentiality and led students in an oath to emphasize the high standards expected of them as they care for patients during their clinical assignments. Mary Haven, associate dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, also gave an overview of the SAHP program. <\/p>\n<p>The RSTE division includes the following programs: diagnostic medical
