{"id":22190,"date":"2004-11-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-11-29T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2004\/11\/29\/unmc-exceeds-its-2004-united-way-goal\/"},"modified":"2004-11-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-11-29T06:00:00","slug":"unmc-exceeds-its-2004-united-way-goal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2004\/11\/29\/unmc-exceeds-its-2004-united-way-goal\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC exceeds its 2004 United Way goal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>UNMC employees contributed $121,128 to this year&#8217;s United Way of the Midlands campaign, exceeding the campus goal of $120,000.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The faculty and staff at UNMC gave very generously this fall,&#8221; said Andy Kammerer, campaign division director at United Way of the Midlands. &#8220;They can and should be proud of their contribution, because it will make a real difference to thousands of people in our community in the year to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The United Way Community Care Fund supports more than 150 local health and human service programs. For every dollar donated, 90 cents is returned to an affiliated agency. More specifically, there are agencies funded by contract from which UNMC receives direct support, including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m very pleased we exceeded our goal,&#8221; said Gerald Moore, M.D., associate dean in the College of Medicine and chairman of UNMC&#8217;s United Way campaign for the second consecutive year. &#8220;The generosity of our employees will improve the lives of many in our community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although UNMC&#8217;s campaign &#8220;officially&#8221; ended Oct. 29, employees may still donate by returning outstanding pledge cards to Shawn Cook in UNMC Public Affairs, ZIP 5230.
