\"pictureThe Nebraska Legislature on Monday commended Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., on his service to Nebraska and his recent naming as Midlander of the Year by the Omaha World-Herald.<\/p>\n

Legislative Resolution No. 29, recognizing Dr. Maurer, passed without objection. Sens. Ed Schrock of Elm Creek, Joel Johnson, M.D., of Kearney, Don Pederson of North Platte and Jim Jensen of Omaha sponsored the resolution. <\/p>\n

Dr. Johnson, a 1961 graduate of UNMC, said Dr. Maurer is “highly deserving” of the honor.<\/p>\n

“There have been a lot of great people who have contributed to the success of the Medical Center, but Hal Maurer has been the guy who really has taken them from being an excellent place to a nationally recognized medical research center and nationally recognized medical campus,” Dr. Johnson said. <\/p>\n

\nWHEREAS, Harold M. Maurer, M.D., has served the State
\nof Nebraska in the position of Chancellor of the University of
\nNebraska Medical Center since 1998; and
\nWHEREAS, Dr. Maurer has been a leader at the University
\nof Nebraska Medical Center through unprecedented growth during the
\nlast decade; and
\nWHEREAS, Dr. Maurer has been recognized as “Midlander of
\nthe Year” by the Omaha World Herald.
\nNOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE
\nNINETY-NINTH LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, FIRST SESSION:
\n1. That the Legislature commends Harold M. Maurer on his
\nservice to the state and congratulates him on his recognition as
\nMidlander of the Year.
\n2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to Dr. Maurer.
\n<\/P>

\n<\/TD>
\n<\/TR>
\n<\/TABLE>Schrock said Holdrege resident Roy Pearson originally contacted him about a resolution to recognize Dr. Maurer. Discussions with other senators followed, and the resolution was posted officially Jan. 25. Following five days of no objections, it was passed on Monday.<\/p>\n

“I think the fact that he (Dr. Maurer) has gotten all of these research dollars to Nebraska is tremendous,” Schrock said. “We’re lucky to have him in the state.”<\/p>\n
