A 24-year veteran of the Food and Drug Association will give a presentation on the government agency at the College of Pharmacy on Tuesday, March 8.<\/p>\n

Jerome Skelly, Ph.D., president of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), will present “FDA – How it is Composed, How it Came into Being and the Current Issue of Drug Safety,” beginning at noon in the College of Pharmacy, Room 1038. Lunch will be served for the first 50 attendees. The event is hosted by the UNMC AAPS Student Chapter and UNMC College of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n

“As president of the largest organization of pharmaceutical scientists in the world, we are pleased that Dr. Skelly would make the time in his busy schedule to visit our college and campus,” College of Pharmacy Dean Clarence Ueda, Pharm.D., Ph.D., said. “This means a lot to our student AAPS chapter, our Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program (PSGP), and our drug delivery research program and faculty.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Skelly also serves as an adjunct professor of biopharmaceutics at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. He held senior scientific and management positions in the FDA for more than 24 years, much of it as director and program manager for biopharmaceutics. He also was a World Health Organization consultant to Egypt.<\/p>\n

At the time of his retirement, Dr. Skelly served as a member of the U.S. federal government’s Senior Executive Service, holding joint appointments as deputy director of CDER’s Office of Research and associate director for Science in the Office of Generic Drugs (OGD).<\/p>\n

Dr. Ueda said that Dr. Skelly’s presentation should be of particular interest because it is occurring at a time when the FDA is prevalent in many media stories.<\/p>\n

“I would think that many on this campus would want to attend Dr. Skelly’s seminar not only to hear what he has to say, but also to get his insights and opinions regarding some current hot FDA issues such as the Vioxx matter,” Dr. Ueda said.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
