{"id":22554,"date":"2005-03-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-03-24T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2005\/03\/24\/biomedical-engineering-symposium-april-18-register-by-april-1\/"},"modified":"2005-03-24T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2005-03-24T06:00:00","slug":"biomedical-engineering-symposium-april-18-register-by-april-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2005\/03\/24\/biomedical-engineering-symposium-april-18-register-by-april-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Biomedical engineering symposium April 18, register by April 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>UNMC is among the sponsors and the main organizer of the Heartland Biomedical Engineering Symposium, formerly titled the Nebraska Biomedical Engineering Research workshop, on Monday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine St. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Modern advances in medicine are strongly technology driven and biomedical engineering research is the engine of such technology,&#8221; said Dr. Hani Haider, orthopaedics research laboratories, UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. &#8220;This symposium will bring together the state&#8217;s major players in biomedical engineering research for an interdisciplinary conference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The free symposium is for clinicians\/rehabilitation specialists, engineers, educators, administrators, representatives of industry and all parties with an interest in biomedical engineering. Student participation is strongly encouraged. <\/p>\n<p>The event will be a unique opportunity to quickly know about most of the laboratories performing Biomedical Engineering research in Nebraska. Various lab leaders from UNMC, UNO\/PKI, UNL and Creighton University will give short talks summarizing the research conducted in their laboratories. Additionally, 12 selected research papers\/abstracts will be presented, as will a good selection of research posters. <\/p>\n<p>Participants will have an opportunity to discuss, contribute, develop research collaboration or even seek summer internships or other employment with these research teams. Jeffery Taylor, M.D., president of Diamicron Inc., an enterprise established to develop medical device applications of synthetic diamond, is the invited speaker. Dr. Taylor will present &#8220;Are Diamonds Forever? Eliminating the Bearing as the Limiting Factor in Orthopaedic Arthroplasty.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The free symposium includes a continental breakfast and lunch at no cost to pre-registered participants. The pre-registration deadline is Friday, April 1. To register, contact Dr. Haider at 559-5607 or 559-8000.
