Nebraska Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy received his first in-depth look at UNMC on Thursday, as he spent the morning meeting with campus officials and touring various locations on campus.

A Hastings native, Sheehy took office in January after former Lieutenant Gov. Dave Heineman assumed the role of governor for the departing Mike Johanns, who is now the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Sheehy visited with campus officials – including Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. – and toured three areas: the new ITS Data Center in the 4230 Building, a pulmonary research laboratory in the Durham Research Center, and the Gross Anatomy Laboratory in Wittson Hall.<\/p>\n

Sheehy has more than two decades of experience in health care, working as a paramedic in Hastings. Sheehy worked for Rural\/Metro Ambulance, staring in 1982 as an emergency medical technician. He became Rural\/Metro’s paramedic field supervisor two years later, and the market general manager in 1987. He held that position until his appointment as lieutenant governor.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
