UNMC employees will have to go no further than a couple of blocks to view this year’s Omaha Symphony\/ASID Designer Showhouse. <\/p>\n

Potter’s House, an 1892 Renaissance mansion at 428 S. 38th St., is this year’s showhouse. Public viewing will begin Saturday, April 16, and continue through Sunday, May 8.<\/p>\n

Purchased in 1989 by UNMC, Potter’s House provides a safe, low-cost, temporary home for up to 11 families of patients undergoing treatment and recovery from organ transplants at The Nebraska Medical Center. The home also serves as a temporary residence for doctors and nurses training at UNMC\/The Nebraska Medical Center in the International Strategic Partnership Program. <\/p>\n

\nOpen Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
\nClosed Mondays for group tours. Group tours can be arranged by calling (402) 559-1100. <\/p>\n

Tickets are $12.50 in advance, and are available at all metro area HyVee Stores, the Omaha Symphony Box Office, and online at www.omahasymphonyshowhouse.com<\/a>. Tickets also are available at the Clarkson Gift Shop. Cost will be $15 at the door.

\nLocated in Omaha’s historic Gold Coast area, the home was built by Omaha businessman Charles Dietz. Noteworthy guest included an Egyptian ruler, five U.S. presidents, Helen Keller and Mark Twain.<\/p>\n

“Harmony for Hope” is the 30th anniversary celebration of the Omaha Symphony\/ASID Designer Showhouse fund-raiser, which supports youth music education. For three decades, the Omaha Symphony Guild and the Nebraska-Iowa Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) have collaborated to create the Omaha Symphony\/ASID Designer Showhouse. <\/p>\n

Each year, the two organizations establish a design theme and choose a home to showcase the best examples of interior design and the latest trends in decor. <\/p>\n

As in past years, proceeds from this year’s three-week-long fund-raising event will help support a wide variety of Omaha Symphony youth music education programs delivered across Nebraska and western Iowa.<\/p>\n

The stately, 100-plus-year-old mansion has received a thorough design makeover from more than 20 ASID designers, each of whom drew for the room they would design. While touring the home, visitors can enjoy refreshments and visit the boutique featuring home, garden and decor items, jewelry, art and clothing.<\/p>\n

For the first time in the history of the Showhouse, all decorations and furnishings will remain in the Potter’s House as a special service to accommodate the needs of those whose care will continue beyond the close of this year’s Showhouse.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
