Swanson Courtyard is located between the Durham Research Center and Swanson Hall on the medical center campus. Frozen treats will be available. <\/p>\n

UNMC, UMA and The Nebraska Medical Center employees also are invited to visit Joslyn Art Museum to see the special exhibition Frederick J. Brown: Portraits of Music I Love on view now through Sept. 4.<\/p>\n

Susie Thorne<\/b>
\nExperience a new twist on mainstream jazz standards from be-bop to Latin with Susie Thorne. Inspired by such legendary artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, and Carmen McCray, jazz singer Susie Thorne studied at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, performed for a loyal following in Japan and Hong Kong, and, upon her return to Omaha, released her first CD, “Love for Sale,” which was greeted with critical acclaim and won her comparisons to Diana Krall. <\/p>\n

Backed by a host of exceptional musicians, she will enchant you with her cool renditions of the classics and unique vocal stylings. Thorne’s arrangements are diverse and cover an array of popular jazz songs and ballads like Clifford Brown’s “Joyspring,” Billie Holiday’s “Summertime,” Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia,” and Norah Jones’ “Don’t Know Why.” <\/p>\n

\nFrederick J. Brown: Portraits of the Music I Love exhibit is open through Sept. 4. Brown’s monumental paintings pay tribute to figures that have fired the American imagination. For Joslyn’s exhibition, this celebrated African-American artist’s portraits of famous jazz musicians will be featured. Subjects include Wynton Marsalis, Mel Torme, and Sonny Boy Williamson.<\/p>\n

Through a partnership with Joslyn, all UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UMA employees, students and their families will be admitted free to the museum and ticketed exhibitions in 2005 by showing their employee ID badge at Joslyn’s entrance desk. A free admission includes two adults and accompanying children during general admission hours, which are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Note: Thursdays evenings during the run of Russia’s Age of Elegance and Fredrick J.
