The following are highlights from the UNMC College of Medicine Volunteer Faculty Awards program for the first half of 2005. The program recognizes outstanding volunteer faculty members for their contributions to the campus and to the classroom and clinical settings. <\/p>\n

\"pictureDeborah Perry, M.D.,<\/b> directs UNMC’s resident rotation in pediatric pathology at Children’s Hospital. She has served as a volunteer clinical assistant professor since 1989.<\/p>\n

“The rotation and Dr. Perry consistently receive high marks for teaching quality,” her nominator said. “In addition, Dr. Perry has participated in numerous other teaching activities in our department and is always willing to help out and contribute.” <\/p>\n

John Mazour, M.D.,<\/b> and Joel Travis, M.D.,<\/b> both volunteer faculty members in the Department of Family Practice, are in private practice in Albion, Neb. Dr. Mazour has served as a volunteer faculty member since 1991. Dr. Travis has served as a volunteer faculty member since 1992. <\/p>\n

“Drs. Mazour and Travis are family physicians with a long commitment to educating our family practice students and enhancing our residency education,” their nominators said.<\/p>\n

John Batter, M.D.,<\/b> has provided critical clinical support for cardiac and thoracic surgery and won praise from residents and students for his teaching. Dr. Batter has served as a volunteer faculty member since 2004, following a stint from 1999 to 2002. <\/p>\n

“John Batter saved our residency program by stepping in to provide outstanding clinical service and praise worthy teaching,” his nominator said.<\/p>\n

Tim Davy, M.D.,<\/b> a family physician with Norfolk Family Medicine in Norfolk, Neb., has served as a volunteer faculty member since 1989. <\/p>\n

“Dr. Davy has a long commitment to educating our family practice students and enhancing our residency education,” his nominator said.<\/p>\n

\"pictureTom Martin, M.D.,<\/b> teaches third-year medical students during their required ob\/gyn clerkship and also has contact with second- and third-year ob\/gyn residents. Dr. Martin is associated with Physicians Clinic in Omaha and has served as a volunteer faculty member since 1985. <\/p>\n

“Dr. Martin has been an active educator of our medical students and residents. He is eager to involve students in his patients’ care and serves as an outstanding role model for our students.” <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
