Maurer, M.D., said.  &#8220;The journal is delivered to 5,000 subscribers each month, including every medical dean and medical school chancellor in the United States. The Durham Research Center is going to be the first thing they see when they view this journal. This coverage provides great awareness for the DRC and for the work that we&#8217;re doing here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/drcacademic.jpg\" border=\"2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\nTom O&#8217;Connor, senior associate director of Public Affairs, said much of the credit for getting the cover placement goes to Tom Birk, Ph.D., a senior educational designer in UNMC&#8217;s Information Technology Services. Dr. Birk gave a poster presentation at the AAMC national conference last November in Boston. While there, a writer who then worked for &#8220;Academic Medicine&#8221; introduced herself to Dr. Birk. She indicated the journal&#8217;s practice of featuring an academic medical center, and Dr. Birk forwarded her contact information to O&#8217;Connor. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an example of how just a small piece of communication with our office can turn into great publicity for the campus,&#8221; O&#8217;Connor said. &#8220;Tom Birk could have easily come back to campus, got involved in his work and forgot to forward the contact information to me. Instead, he took two minutes to forward that information, and we took the ball and ran with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The AAMC journal has featured an AAMC institutional member on its cover since July 2002. In addition to the subscribers each month, the journal&#8217;s Web site receives about 60,000 hits per week.
