\n<\/TABLE>Each year, hundreds of new UNMC students flock to the Center for Healthy Living gymnasium to explore the vast organizational opportunities at UNMC.<\/p>\n

Pharmacy student Megan Poppe of Crofton and medical students Leah Miller of Ponca and Ian Young of O’Neill were among those who meandered from booth-to-booth Thursday seeking information and freebies at the annual Student Orientation Fair. <\/p>\n

Organized by UNMC’s Student Counseling office, the fair is a prime opportunity to learn more about the various organizations and what each has to offer, said second-year medical student Jon Henning. <\/p>\n

Here is a breakdown of this year’s event:<\/p>\n

400 <\/b>– first-year students who explored such organizations as the Aging Interest Group and Emergency Medicine Interest Group to the Integrative Medicine Group and the Student Association for Rural Health.<\/p>\n

300<\/b> – the number of prepared sandwiches, chips, cookies and fruit.<\/p>\n

125 <\/b>– the cost of a four-year membership to the American Medical Student Association, which landed students a free Netter anatomy book (valued at $80). <\/p>\n

\nMaking his first appearance at the student organization fair is the American Medical Student Association’s 10-foot tall inflatable physician.

\n<\/TABLE>120 <\/b>– minutes students had to ask questions about various organizations, pick up freebies and buy a sandwich.<\/p>\n

40 <\/b>– students who showed interested in the pediatric interest group – during the first hour of the event.<\/p>\n

30 <\/b>– the number of officially recognized student organizations at Thursday’s event. <\/p>\n

12<\/b> – months until the next student orientation fair.<\/p>\n

3<\/b> – freebies available at the UNMC Bookstore booth, where students bagged bookmarks, oversized paper clips and Post it Notes.<\/p>\n

2 <\/b>– new student organizations participated – the surgical interest group and a medical student spouse group named Pulse.<\/p>\n
