Preparation for re-accreditation began in early 2005 with a comprehensive self-study submitted last September and a site visit last November.<\/p>\n<p>The ACCME sets and administers standards and criteria for providers of quality CME for physicians and related professionals and certifies that accredited providers are capable of meeting the established requirements for CME as outlined in the Essential Areas. The ACCME is governed by a board of directors from seven organizations: the American Board of Medical Specialties, American Hospital Association, American Medical Association, Association of Hospital Medical Education, Association of American Medical Colleges, Council of Medical Societies and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the U.S.   <\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, there are approximately 2,500 accredited providers (including state medical societies that are designated to accredit hospital-based providers). In Nebraska, there are three providers accredited by the ACCME and 11 that are accredited through the Nebraska Medical Association.<\/p>\n<p>The Center for Continuing Education accredits a wide-range of educational activities &#8212; from College of Medicine departmental conferences to major national meetings such as Pan Pacific Lymphoma, as well as faculty development.
