James E. McClurg, chairman of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, released a statement today (Friday) regarding the Nebraska Supreme Court’s ruling that C. David Hergert be removed from the office of regent. <\/p>\n

The text of McClurg’s statement:<\/p>\n

Speaking as Chairman of the Board of Regents, this matter has been a distraction and a disruption of the important work of the Board of Regents, and has taken attention away from many positive accomplishments of our campuses and the board. It has tarnished the reputation of the board and the university, and we will work diligently to restore the public’s confidence and trust. This is a great university, and we will move forward, continuing to serve the needs of our students, faculty, staff and the citizens of Nebraska. We look forward to the governor’s appointment so that the entire state can again be represented on the board.<\/p>\n

Speaking as an individual Regent, the legislature and the courts designed and executed an extensive process, and I agree with the outcome.
