{"id":26845,"date":"2006-08-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-15T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2006\/08\/15\/regents-extend-resident-tuition-eligibility-to-states-veterans\/"},"modified":"2006-08-15T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-15T05:00:00","slug":"regents-extend-resident-tuition-eligibility-to-states-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2006\/08\/15\/regents-extend-resident-tuition-eligibility-to-states-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Regents extend resident tuition eligibility to state&#8217;s veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>Veterans of all branches of the U.S. armed services will be eligible to attend the University of Nebraska at in-state (resident) tuition rates under an amendment to the university&#8217;s tuition policy approved by the Board of Regents on July 28. <\/p>\n<p>Any individual who graduates from a Nebraska high school, is honorably discharged from the military, and returns to Nebraska to establish a home now qualifies for in-state tuition without having to first meet the 12-month domicile rule. The policy is effective immediately. <\/p>\n<p> &#8220;The policy was changed to allow men and women who have honorably served their country to return to Nebraska and attend college at in-state rates without having to re-establish residency,&#8221; said James B. Milliken, president of the University of Nebraska, said.<\/p>\n<p>The policy, from which veterans are now exempt, requires that an individual live in the state for a minimum of 12 months to establish residency and qualify for in-state tuition.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Nebraska&#8217;s tuition policy already grants resident tuition status to active members of the armed services who are have been assigned a permanent duty station in Nebraska, as well as their spouses and dependents. <\/p>\n<p>Regent Drew Miller proposed the policy change. &#8220;We want to welcome Nebraska veterans home and encourage them to begin or continue their college studies here in Nebraska,&#8221; Miller said.<\/p>\n<!-- <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" title=\"UqTQG p\">UqTQG p<\/a>
