The University of Nebraska Board of Regents Friday approved a proposed agreement with the City of Omaha to conduct a feasibility study for the relocation of Saddle Creek Road on the western edge of the UNMC campus.<\/p>\n

The board also approved the selection of HDR Engineering, Inc., as the engineering consultant that will conduct the study.<\/p>\n

The projected cost of the study is $1 million. Funding comes from the 2006 Transportation Appropriations Bill and was awarded to the Nebraska Department of Roads.<\/p>\n

In addition to UNMC and the City of Omaha, the study also includes the participation of the Missouri-Papio Natural Resources District, The Nebraska Medical Center and the Nebraska Department of Roads.<\/p>\n

The study will investigate roadway relocation options and consider the benefits and impact of the realignment of Saddle Creek Road on transportation improvements, drainage improvements for flood control, adjacent neighborhoods and area businesses. <\/p>\n

The feasibility study will be done along with other city transportation studies that are investigating ways to improve traffic flow and economic opportunities for midtown Omaha.<\/p>\n
