The UNMC Faculty Senate recently went on record in opposition to a proposed constitutional amendment that would place a cap on state expenditures.<\/p>\n

During its Sept. 11 meeting, the senate voted unanimously to oppose Initiative 423. <\/p>\n

RESOLUTION NO. 1 2006-2007 <\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/i>, Nebraskans will vote this fall on a ballot initiative to amend the Constitution of Nebraska by imposing a cap on state expenditures, and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/i>, the proposed constitutional amendment, if passed, will adversely affect state funding for public education at all levels, and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/i>, the proposed amendment, if passed, would serve as an overall detriment to the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s mission to improve the health of Nebraska through premier educational programs, innovative research, the highest quality patient care, and outreach to underserved populations, and <\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/i>, the proposed amendment, if passed, would result in the need for greater tuition increases that would further restrict Nebraskans’ access to quality and affordable education in the health professions, and<\/p>\n

WHEREAS<\/i>, the proposed amendment, if passed, would further impede the efforts to pay UNMC faculty the competitive salaries necessary to attract and maintain the quality faculty needed to build a world-class health sciences center, <\/p>\n

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED<\/i>, that the UNMC Faculty Senate strongly opposes the passage of this proposed constitutional amendment, and encourages all Nebraskans who support quality public education and quality health care for all Nebraskans to actively oppose this ballot initiative.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
