Joel Johnson, M.D.<br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>Nebraska State Sen. Joel Johnson, M.D., an alumnus of UNMC&#8217;s College of Medicine and chairman of the Nebraska Legislature&#8217;s Health and Human Services Committee, will be on campus March 13 to speak to members of the UNMC Delegates Program.<\/p>\n<p>At the event, which starts at 6 p.m. in University Tower&#8217;s Private Dining Rooms, the senator will speak about the formation of health care policy in the Nebraska Legislature.  <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Johnson, who has represented District 37 (Kearney) since 2002, received a medical degree from UNMC in 1961. In addition to serving as chairman of the Legislature&#8217;s Health and Human Services Committee, the senator also is a member of the education committee. <\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"1\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<font face=\"arial\"><br \/>\n<B><br \/>\nMembers only<br \/>\n<\/B><br \/>\n<BR><br \/>\nThe quarterly speaker series is only open to members of the Delegates Program. Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/dept\/unmcdelegates\" target=\"_blanK\" rel=\"noopener\">www.unmc.edu\/dept\/unmcdelegates<\/a> to become a delegate.<br \/>\n<\/P><br \/>\n<\/FONT><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>The UNMC Delegates Program is a grassroots advocacy program composed of people willing to advocate on behalf of UNMC to federal and state representatives. The program was introduced in August and is made up of more than 200 alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of UNMC. <\/p>\n<p>The UNMC Board of Counselors, an advisory group of community and business leaders from across the state, sponsors the program. <\/p>\n<p>The delegates program is free to members and uses e-mail to communicate with the delegates regarding issues of importance to UNMC. More specifically, delegates receive informational e-mails regarding congressional and state legislative developments and are called to action when crucial issues arise. <\/p>\n<p>Aside from e-mail communication, members are invited to attend an annual dinner as well as delegates-only quarterly events, such as the March 13 dinner featuring Dr. Johnson. <\/p>\n<!-- <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" title=\"WWZ  be ixrNo\">WWZ  be ixrNo<\/a> --><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nebraska State Sen.
