\n<\/TABLE>Everyone loves to hear stories about the Old West. <\/p>\n

Smithsonian scholar Jim Garry will share several stories from this rough and tumble time in America’s history during a lecture at UNMC on Tuesday, May 22 at noon in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.<\/p>\n

Garry began his career as a naturalist, but soon became interested in the people of the west, drawing the natural history of the area into his work. He became a storyteller in the oral tradition who readily retrieves about two hundred hours of stories from memory about the American west. <\/p>\n

Garry has held several interesting jobs including working as a cowboy, horse wrangler, media consultant, wilderness guide, teacher, camp cook, political consultant, river runner, artist-in-residence, lumberjack, mule packer, biologist and folklore collector. <\/p>\n

Garry’s presentation is part of the Time Travelers partnership between the museum and UNMC. The partnership allows medical center employees and students to receive free admission to the museum year round with a valid identification badge. <\/p>\n
