UNMC is now about four months into the yearlong 1 Million Step Challenge — that said — there’s still time to get started. <\/p>\n

While more than 750 people initially registered for the challenge, there are still many employees who haven’t.<\/p>\n

And though many current participants have already achieved or are close to achieving the 1 million-step milestone, Jayme Nekuda of the Center for Healthy Living emphasized that the challenge is not a race but rather a fun way to help people increase their activity levels.<\/p>\n

“To any of those people who want to participate but haven’t yet, I say grab a pedometer and start walking,” Nekuda said. “We still have a long way to go.”<\/p>\n

And as has been proven by several current participants, achieving 1 million steps is a realistic and fun endeavor, Nekuda said. <\/p>\n

\nThe cost to purchase a pedometer and logbook is $9. Pedometers can be purchased and picked up at the CFHL or routed through campus mail. If an employee already has a pedometer, the logbook is free. <\/p>\n
