UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, is the only hospital in the state and region to be awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology services as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). <\/p>\n

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic-interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards related to quality patient care after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by radiation oncology physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel, the adequacy of facility equipment, and standards of care. <\/p>\n

“The accreditation is a stamp of acknowledgment for our high level of patient care in radiation oncology services,” said Robert Thompson, M.D., associate professor of radiation oncology at UNMC and clinical service chief of radiation oncology at The Nebraska Medical Center. “The ACR accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality patient care.”<\/p>\n

The radiation oncology department at The Nebraska Medical Center has an average of 1,500 patient visits a month for the treatment of benign or malignant diseases. The department’s mission is to provide high quality, state-of-the-art care for patients in the most cost effective manner, while advancing research and education at UNMC and the Eppley Institute.<\/p>\n

The Nebraska Medical Center is a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center and is the only regional member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, a coalition of the nation’s leading cancer centers dedicated to making high-quality, cost-effective care available to cancer patients across the country.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
