Ok, so Thursday is Valentine’s Day. I detest the Valentine’s Day norms of getting gifts such as chocolates, cards or flowers. <\/p>\n

But I’m also forgetful, which means I’m often left scrambling on Feb. 13 or 14 looking for a gift for my lovely wife, Dani. This means I often shamefully show up bearing one of the aforementioned gifts.<\/p>\n

Ah, but bless your hearts dear readers. Last year, being the editor of UNMC Today gave me the opportunity to break out of the Valentine’s Day rut and do something genuine for Dani. <\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>I published a list of reasons why I love her that ran in a story featuring other amorous tidbits from UNMC Today readers.<\/p>\n

I thought it was a fun way to handle this holiday and so I’m headed back to the well again this year and I’d really like you to come along, too. <\/p>\n

Meaningful moments will be emphasized in this year’s UNMC Today “Sweetheart’s Package.”<\/p>\n

I want to hear from you about specific moments in which you were particularly glad your loved one was with you.<\/p>\n

I’m not looking for things like “I’m always glad he’s there” or “she brightens all my days.” I want individual moments.<\/p>\n

Maybe it was during a tough time and your loved one provided a shoulder to cry on. Maybe it was a particularly joyous occasion — a promotion, graduation or birth of a child — that you were able to celebrate together. Maybe it’s something simple like a particularly nice dinner or a walk in the park that struck you as a moment to cherish.<\/p>\n

For example, Dani and I went to Alaska on our honeymoon and while there we stopped at this little ice cream shack on a pier where they made their own waffle cones and homemade ice cream. <\/p>\n

We both got this carmel, chocolate flavor called “Moose Tracks” in these amazing waffle cones. We sat down, ate the delectable ice cream cones and shared a sugar high for the ages. Then after eating dessert — we went and got dinner. <\/p>\n

It was a really cool moment that happened seven years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. And I was really glad to share it with her. <\/p>\n

So what moments with your loved one do you look back on and view as joyous bedrocks of your relationship? Send a note describing them to today@unmc.edu<\/a> by noon Wednesday and we’ll publish them on Thursday morning. <\/p>\n

And once that happens, might I suggest you forward the story on to your loved one. It just might beat getting him or her a box a chocolates.
