\n<\/TABLE>UNMC Board of Counselors member and chairman of Behlen Manufacturing Co. Tony Raimondo visited the medical center on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

After visiting with UNMC leaders, researchers and educators, the Columbus, Neb., businessman said he was struck by the spirit of teamwork that permeates the medical center environment. <\/p>\n

“The UNMC workforce truly is a united team,” he said. “The focus on growing together here truly makes a difference and is remarkable in such a setting.”<\/p>\n

During his visit, Raimondo:
\n

  • Discussed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with Todd Wyatt, Ph.D., associate professor in the UNMC Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy Section;
    \n
  • Received an update on the Saddle Creek Road Project from Ken Hansen, assistant vice chancellor for business and finance;
    \n
  • Learned about advances in nursing education from College of Nursing Dean Virginia Tilden, D.N.Sc., and other college faculty members; and
    \n
  • Was briefed by UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., and other campus leaders on new medical center initiatives and developing issues pertinent to health education, research and patient care.<\/UL> <\/p>\n

    The progress being made on fronts ranging from research to facilities is something more Nebraskans should be aware of, Raimondo said. <\/p>\n

    Raimondo also said he was very impressed with the economic impact UNMC has on the state, noting that studies show that medical center creates jobs and brings several million dollars into the state each year. <\/p>\n

    Dr. Maurer said it was good to meet with Raimondo.<\/p>\n

    “Tony’s support for the medical center has always been very evident and appreciated,” Dr. Maurer said. “It was good to visit with him and I was glad he was able to witness the exciting advances taking place here at UNMC.”<\/p>\n

    Earlier this week, Raimondo declared his intention to run for U.S. Senate. Among others vying for the seat is former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and Nebraska Gov. Mike Johanns, who visited UNMC last month. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
