Lunch will be provided for the first 50 employees to attend. <\/p>\n<p>The session will include a panel discussion about the initiative and its potential devastating impact on UNMC&#8217;s efforts to create a diverse workforce and student body. This includes potential negative affects on UNMC programs aimed at recruiting and retaining faculty and students from diverse backgrounds. <\/p>\n<p>Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external affairs, will moderate the discussion and the panel will be composed of:<br \/>\n<UL><LI>Rubens Pamies, M.D., vice chancellor for academic affairs;<br \/>\n<LI>Myrna Newland, M.D., director of UNMC&#8217;s equity office;<br \/>\n<LI>Gordon Todd, Ph.D., president of the UNMC Faculty Senate; and<br \/>\n<LI>Curtis McKnight, president of the UNMC Student Senate.<\/ul>\n<p>The forum will be broadcast to the following sites:<\/p>\n<p><UL><LI>UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Dixon Lecture Hall<br \/>\n<LI>University of Nebraska at Kearney, West Center 148<br \/>\n<LI>Scottsbluff, Panhandle Station, Room No. 100<\/UL><\/p>\n<p>The legislative initiative, known as LR 233CA, reads &#8220;The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If passed by the Legislature, the initiative would be placed on the November ballot for voter approval.<\/p>\n<p>UNMC&#8217;s student and faculty senates recently passed resolutions opposing LR 233CA.<\/p>\n<p>All employees are encouraged to attend the forum, which will include an opportunity for employees to ask questions. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A legislative initiative aimed at banning affirmative action will be the topic of a lunch and learn session today at noon in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.
