\n<\/TABLE>UNMC scientists interested in participating in a post graduate level training track in clinical and translational research are urged to attend a seminar on the subject today at noon in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.<\/p>\n

UNMC’s Fausto Loberiza Jr., M.D., Apar Ganti, M.D., and Lani Zimmermann, Ph.D., will present “The Center for Clinical and Translational Research — Mentored Clinical and Translational Research Scholars Training Program.” <\/p>\n

The seminar will familiarize faculty with the program, said Dr. Loberiza, an associate professor in the College of Medicine and program director of the training track.<\/p>\n

“This seminar is for junior faculty or trainees about to become faculty to let them know about this program, which allows them to pursue clinical and translational research while at the same time getting institutional support to pay for salary and research,” Dr. Loberiza said.<\/p>\n

The track is at least a two-year program of course work and includes an intensive mentored research project. The training program is patterned after existing programs at major U.S. medical centers. <\/p>\n

The first cohort of the clinical and translational research training track started course work last fall. <\/p>\n

The six scientists in UNMC’s first cohort are progressing well in their training, Dr. Loberiza said. Some already having secured extramural funding for their research, he said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ganti, an assistant professor of oncology who is one of the track’s first participants, and Dr. Zimmerman, a professor in the College of Nursing who serves as a mentor for the first cohort, will discuss the program during today’s seminar.<\/p>\n

The training track and research seminar were introduced as part of UNMC’s increased emphasis on clinical and translational research — a top priority on the medical center’s strategic plan. <\/p>\n

The seminar is part of an ongoing series of clinical and translational research seminars held on the third Monday of each month.<\/p>\n
