\n<\/TABLE>A retirement tea for Eric Scholar, Ph.D., will be held today at 3 p.m. in University Tower’s Private Dining Rooms B and C.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scholar, a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience in the College of Medicine, is retiring after serving at UNMC for 33 years.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scholar teaches graduate, medical, pharmacy, allied health and nursing students. He has garnered a number of teaching awards over the years including the Golden Apple Award, American Medical Student Association Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Teaching, the Carl F. Gessert Award for Dedication in Teaching, the Faculty Senate’s Award for Outstanding Teaching, the Distinguished Teaching Award from the College of Pharmacy, the Class of 1962 Basic Science Teaching Award and the Alvin Earle Award for Outstanding Health Science Educator.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scholar’s research interests focused on cancer biology and, in particular, on tumor metastasis and cancer chemotherapy related to metastasis.<\/p>\n

He has been involved in many service tasks for the university. He served as course director for the medical, pharmacy and graduate pharmacology course for 16 years and helped develop the long-standing mini-quiz approach in the course. He has been a member of the College of Pharmacy Curriculum Committee for 17 years and played an important role in maintaining the integrated medical and pharmacy course. In the community, Dr. Scholar has been active in the Audubon Society of Omaha, including serving as president for three years.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
