\n<\/TABLE>During its recent annual spring retreat in Lincoln, the UNMC College of Nursing presented seven awards to faculty and staff for excellence in teaching, research and service. <\/p>\n

Linda Sather, Ed.D., assistant professor at the College of Nursing in Omaha, said one of the high points of the academic year is the opportunity for faculty and staff of the four nursing campuses to be together at the retreat.<\/p>\n

“A development opportunity is provided and most importantly we celebrate and honor faculty and staff who have excelled,” said Dr. Sather, who was part of the awards committee. “We are proud of the awardees and pleased to recognize them for their extra efforts.”<\/p>\n

Hilary Christo, coordinator of student services at the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division, also served on the awards committee and said the annual awards are a great culmination of a year of hard work. <\/p>\n

“The opportunity to recognize, thank and appreciate fellow colleagues is an added bonus of being a part of UNMC College of Nursing,” Christo said. “Everyone looks forward to the annual recognition.”<\/p>\n

Below are the award recipients:<\/p>\n

Missy Ofe Fleck,<\/B> assistant professor in the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division, is the recipient of the Kathryn Sandahl Philp Award for Creativity and Innovation. The award acknowledges and supports faculty creativity and innovation in teaching, research or practice and service.<\/p>\n

Diane Brage Hudson, Ph.D.,<\/B> associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division, received the Pennie Z. Davis Faculty Research Award. The award recognizes creative activities of a new investigator in conducting research that represents a promising area for nursing science and practice. <\/p>\n

Audrey Nelson, Ph.D.,<\/B> associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing in Omaha, received the Ada M. Lindsey Professional Service Award, an award named after the fifth dean of the college. It acknowledges a faculty member for professional service excellence, including recognition as an excellent clinician by students and peers. It also recognizes the recipient’s contribution in increasing financial resources through development of grants and developing and maintaining community partnerships.<\/p>\n

Nancy Ronan Stuart,<\/B> an instructor at the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division, received the Rosalee C. Yeaworth Excellence in Teaching Award. The award is bestowed for inspiring learning, personal and professional integrity, creating a caring learning environment that allows the student to apply new knowledge, as well as for developing creative teaching strategies that facilitate learning. Dr. Yeaworth was the fourth dean of the college.<\/p>\n

Myra Schmaderer,<\/B> an instructor at the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division, received the Donna Westmoreland Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award. The award is named after the late Dr. Westmoreland, who died in 2006 after serving on the faculty for 17 years. It recognizes excellence in mentoring and coaching faculty.<\/p>\n

Shirley Tachenko-Achord,<\/B> assistant professor at the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division, received the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award, an award that recognizes teaching excellence. She is recognized for the myriad ways in which she has made a lasting impression on students as a nurse educator. <\/p>\n

LaDonna Tworek,<\/B> administrative assistant to the dean at the UNMC College of Nursing in Omaha, received the Staff Excellence Award. The award is given for outstanding customer service, embodying the spirit of the college and for respecting individuals for their culture, contributions and points of view.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
