\n<\/TABLE>Well, each panel member correctly picked last week’s winner between Nebraska and Western Michigan so they, like the Cornhuskers, are 1-0.<\/p>\n

That said, the team of internal medicine’s Lisa Runco and former NU star Chad Kelsay were startlingly close with their guess on the game’s score. <\/p>\n

If you remember, they predicted a 44-24 Cornhusker win. NU won 47-24.<\/p>\n

The guess was so good, one panelist — not gonna name names — wondered if Team Runco\/Kelsay had a source “on the inside.” <\/p>\n

So let’s see what our panel has to say about this week’s game against San Jose State. <\/p>\n

Just a refresher, besides Runco, our panel also includes Jeff Hill, M.D., associate dean for admissions and student affairs in the College of Medicine, and anesthesiology instructor Robert Zatechka, M.D. <\/p>\n

Dr. Hill was a split end for the Huskers in the early 1970s, including the 1970 and 1971 national title teams. Dr. Zatechka played on the offensive line for the Huskers in the early 1990s and was a member of the 1994 national title team. <\/p>\n

Since they were so close last week, let’s first hear from Runco and Kelsay:<\/B> “This week will be much of the same from NU, but we expect the defense to shore up some of the mental and technique errors, which led to big plays and too many yards in the second half last week. San Jose State has not opened their season 2-0 since 1987, and this trend will not change in Lincoln. This week, the Huskers also will get the running game in high gear.” NU 48, San Jose State 17<\/I><\/B><\/Font><\/p>\n

Dr. Hill says:<\/B> “Nebraska has momentum after last week’s win. The pass defense will improve against San Jose State. Expect Nebraska to have an easier time this week.” NU 45, San Jose State 14<\/I><\/B><\/Font><\/p>\n

Dr. Zatechka says:<\/B> “Look for more offensive production this week from Nebraska with a continued emphasis on improving the running game. Passing the ball should not be a problem this week. San Jose’s coach is a bit of a defensive guru who will use some unorthodox schemes but I think they lack the raw size and talent to match up well enough to compete effectively. I anticipate improvement from NU’s offensive line now that the younger guys who are starting have that first game under their belt. The same could be said of Nebraska’s defense. With San Jose State’s pass-oriented offense, look for a lot of sacks without Nebraska having to use any special blitzes.
